People Actively Linked with Students (PALS)

Would you like to make a difference in the life of a child?

P.A.L.S. (People Actively Linked with Students) is a mentoring program that connects youth with caring role models who can help them aspire, achieve, and develop to their fullest potential.

The program has two subcomponents – a school-based mentor program and a community-based mentor program.

The school-based program involves meeting with an elementary school child once a week at their school during their lunch break. Eligible mentors for this program can be adults from the community or high school students within the same school district.

High School students interested in the school-based program should contact their guidance counselor for program and training details. Prairie du Chien and Wauzeka School Districts currently participate in the PALS school-based program.

The community-based program matches caring adults with youth in need of a role model. Matches meet outside of the school day, typically two to three times a month.

Adults interested in learning more about being a mentor should contact Kathy Quamme at 608-326-0217.

Young people selected to receive a mentor have varied needs for an extra person in their life. They may be experiencing stress at home, having difficulty fitting in at school, or have special academic or social needs. PALS support staff will work with mentors and participants to ensure a good match. Potential mentors are encouraged to share any concerns, preferences, or special talents and strengths they may have that will help staff best match them with a student.
