Methamphetamine resources and information
Meth proposes unique dangers to not only the meth user, but to property owners, neighbors, children, and others. Meth can be manufactured locally, often “cooked” in the home, out buildings, storage units, motels/hotels, or in abandoned or seasonal property. Meth labs have even been found in the trunk of cars. The chemicals used in meth manufacturing and the finished product itself are dangerous. If you suspect you have been exposed to a meth lab, contact the emergency room immediately. Local training and education The City of Prairie du Chien currently has two officers specially trained to deal with meth labs. If you have questions, suspect a meth lab in your neighborhood, or would like to request training for your business or organization, contact Terry Sprosty at pdcpd83@mhtc.net or Chad Abram at pdcdetective@mhtc.net.
Local efforts in meth prevention
The Methamphetamine Task Force is a partnership of citizens, parents, law enforcement, schools, prevention programs, human services, medical professionals, youth-serving organizations, and others dedicated to understanding and addressing the meth burden in our area.
The task force was created as a result of a community needs assessment specific to meth, attended by 70 individuals representing the above segments of the community. The task force meets quarterly to address the following areas identified as concerns during the needs assessment:
1) Need for training and education on methamphetamine; 2) Need for protocol and policies to deal with meth-related issues and victims; 3) Need to provide care and comfort to children endangered by meth environments.
