Meth Fact Sheet
Self Storage Unit Owners People involved in illegal drug manufacturing often use rented storage facilities to store hazardous materials and laboratory apparatus. It is also not uncommon for manufacturers to actually build a lab and produce illicit drugs in the rented space. In order to protect your customers’ health and your property be aware that the following activities may be indicative of illegal drug manufacturing:
- The renter will likely pay the storage fee in cash well in advance.
- The renter will want twenty-four hour access to his unit.
- The renter may make numerous and seemingly unnecessary trips to the unit at all hours of the day or night.
- The renter may often have a friend act as “lookout” while he inside is the unit and will keep the door closed while he is inside.
- Property stored in the unit is covered or concealed from view when the door is open.
- The renter may appear nervous and paranoid.
- The renter will only smoke when standing outside the unit.
- Strange chemical odors present in or around the unit.
